Over the past couple of months we have talked about Cutting the Cable Cord. We have discussed streaming apps from your smart TV or your computer. We have discussed Over-The-Air broadcasting and antennas. Did I miss anything?  YES!  With most cable packages you can get a DVR, what do you do now? There are DVR’s without cable options.

Summer 2016 - Client asks me to help with their child's phone, it has been stolen. The phone was last seen on the playing field during practice. At this point I shake my head understanding the stress the parent is feeling. So I muster up my best advice, suggest talking to the coaches and players did they see anything or did they pick up the phone my mistake. This phone issue got me thinking about these expensive devices and here are some tips and words of wisdom for you if your phone is stolen or lost.

When cable came out, viewers were in television watching bliss.  There were so many new options available compared to what we were used to.  We could sit mesmerized for hours and laugh, cry, get educated, learn about new travel destinations, watch animals in the wild….doing wild things;  we were exposed to so many new adventures.    We couldn’t get enough, we could choose between basic cable or the prime packages where we could binge watch television an entire weekend and never even shower or leave the house.  We wanted more, more, more.  

Are you ready to cut the cord?  Are you tired of paying an outrageous cable bill every month for a lot of channels when you really only watch a handful of them?  I’ll bet most of you are paying over $125 a month for cable, right?  That is $1500 each year that you could spend on something else (a new Smart TV!)  You probably spend more time flipping through the useless channels than you do enjoying the shows you love. 

Now you can choose from a handful of proven sources to provide you the shows that you love as well as recently released movies. You will still need a good internet connection, a device on which to stream this content and an HDMI connection to your TV.  Streaming is a fun word for getting the content off the internet onto your TV or other device.  If you have a gaming console or smart TV, you can already access any of these services.  Blu-ray players now provide access as well, on that new Smart TV that you will buy with the money you save, and comes with access to these and many more streaming apps.

Technology improves productivity! It also presents a unique challenge that businesses need to overcome. Providing solutions that won’t restrict the ability of workers to do their job properly and won’t keep the business owner up all night worrying about it.
